History in a Pecan Shell

Early settler Darius Ciriaque Rachal was the town's namesake when it was known as Rachal Station. With the arrival of the Texas and New Orleans Railroad, Rachal Station was renamed after a section foreman on the railroad. The community became a full station on the line by 1890.

Ames population in 1930 was a mere twenty-five Amesites and nothing of note is reported (by our source) until the town incorporated in 1972.

In the mid 1970s, Ames had 350 people which grew to 1,155 by 1980.
