History in a Pecan Shell

Settled in 1888, the community had a post office granted two years later. The town’s namesake was orator and journalist Henry W. Grady. In the mid 1890s, Grady had only ten residents, supported by a store, flour mill and cotton gin.

The post office closed its doors in 1902 but the school managed to stay open for several years (finally merging with Hobbs School in 1924). Grady today is remembered only by its small cemetery.
